A project aiming to reconnect generations and preserve an heritage.

During my end of study project (conducted during a master of Transcultural Design in Shanghai), I worked on the ageing process in China.

Through a lot of researches and investigations, I came to the conclusion that the major problem was the massive gap between two generations : the Chinese elders and the new Chinese generation.

REFLEXION

The campaign’s goals were clear. In a first hand, it aimed to highlight the presence of the Chinese elders, then re give them their voice and finally, reconnect the generations.

IDEA

Anyone who has spent a bit of time in China has noticed how the elders were everywhere in the streets. That’s their place. The young generation is, meanwhile, always connected to digital.

What if, we saved the messages and places of these elders for ever through the digital ?

The photography of the old Chinese man sat on his chair has been used from the amazing work of Justin Guariglia. A series of photographs ( All reunited in a book, Planet Shanghai) that I warmly recommend to look for anyone looking to get the crazy atmosphere of this city.

The photography of the old Chinese woman is originally from an other very talented photographer, Ralph Hargarten, who, inspired by a walk into the old shanghai decided to come back to take pictures of the people living there.
